The Central Vermont High School Initiative gratefully welcomes Crystal Madiera, the chef owner of Kismet in Montpelier, to pioneer Community Lunch each week. Nutrition is a cornerstone of human health, and growers of high quality food items surround us in Central Vermont. Each Thursday, Crystal joins students of CVHSI in preparing a whole meal offering vegetarian, meats as well as gluten and dairy free community lunches. Students take part in preparing, and presenting the meal, hosting guests, and cleaning up. The Community Lunch is the foundation for a vibrant and joyful exploration of human health and well being.
Selecting foods, welcoming guests, sharing in a feast, and learning to clean and prepare for all these things is a universal expression of physical and social development and health. Each week we include guests, some of whom offer information and perspective on the students’ developing concept of human health and culture. In late October, we hosted members of the AWSNA board and in mid-November, we welcomed students and teachers from Earthwalk’s Teen Land Project.
